About Dr. McWilliams

Dr. Lachlan McWilliams is a Registered Doctoral Psychologist in good standing with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. He holds the Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE) from the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, which allows him to assess and communicate psychological diagnoses to clients.

Dr. McWilliams utilizes evidence-based treatments (primarily cognitive-behavior therapy) to assist adults with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns, such as depression, anxiety, chronic stress, insomnia, and interpersonal issues. More generally, he enjoys working with clients seeking to increase their self-understanding so they can respond in a more intention manner to life’s challenges and opportunities.

Dr. McWilliams began his clinical training at the University of Regina, where he completed a Master’s of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology (1995-1998). He then completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manitoba (1999-2005). Both these programs involved extensive course work, research, and clinical training and supervision.  As part of this Ph.D. program, Dr. McWilliams completed predoctoral residency at the Royal Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (2004-2005).

Dr. McWilliams works with City Psychology on a part-time basis and is available for evening appointments. Dr. McWilliams is also a Professor of Psychology at University of Saskatchewan. He teaches clinically-focused courses and conducts research on a variety of topics including health conditions, psychopathology, and adult attachment. He has had over 60 research papers on these topics published in academic journals and has received several awards for his research including the President’s New Researcher Award from the Canadian Psychological Association.
